Book Club
I have a wonderful aunt who is part of a really neat reading group. She has chosen Love and Theft as the book she wants to present. They are meeting in the middle of January, and I will join them for that evening. I am looking forward to an interesting conversation with my aunt and her brilliant friends!
Here are some questions to consider for your own book club:
1. What is your favourite part of the book? Which section sticks with you the most?
2. What new things did you learn by reading this book, and what questions do you still have? Did it lead to a new awareness or understanding of mental illness? In what ways?
3. How did the book’s title work with the actual contents? What new title would you give it, if you could?
4. Did any part of the book make you feel uncomfortable? Which one(s)?
5. Are there people in your life you think should read this book, whether they are someone who lives with mental illness, or are impacted by it in some other way?
6. How would you encourage someone to speak with a mental health professional, and what are your own thoughts about engaging with these professionals in general?
7. How do you think social media handles themes around mental illness? Do you enter into discussions on these platforms? Are they helpful?
